Lyles Stone Obituary

FLORENCE Lyles Ellis McLeod Stone died Sunday, January 19, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina, after an illness.

Born on December 8, 1941, in Florence, Lyles was the daughter of the late David Hamilton and Peggy Aiken McLeod.

Lyles was a 1960 graduate of McClenaghan High School. She attended Converse College and the University of South Carolina. The friends in her Class of 1960 remained a constant source of happiness, love, and support throughout her life and especially in the last few months.

Lyles is survived by her devoted sons, Trey L. Stone and his wife Nell of St. Johns Island, SC; David M. Stone and his wife Laura of Indian Rocks Beach, FL; Dr. Croft W. Stone and his wife Ching Ching of Fayetteville, GA; her four precious grandchildren, Jodie Stone, DiDi Stone, Mac Stone, and Jack Stone. She is also survived by her brother David H. McLeod, Jr. and his wife Betty Tull and their daughter Frances Fields of Florence, SC; her loving sister and best friend Peg McLeod and her daughter Chrissie McLeod of Florence, SC; other relatives and especially her sister- and brother-in-law Sara Ella and Walter Lawson and their three children Chartee, Buzzy, and Ted, and close cousins and friends.

Lyles was a faithful and active member of Central United Methodist Church for over fifty years, where her grandfather Dr. Daniel Melvin McLeod served as a former pastor.

Lyles was first in her life a Christian, a daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She was a tender loving mother and joyful friend. Her family will forever be blessed by her example of motherhood. She will leave us all a part of her legacy of kindness, generosity, patience and ability to carry burdens with courage.

The family will receive friends at the home, 905 Santee Drive. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Central United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
