Major Lewis McGee, Jr.

          Major Lewis McGee, Jr., 79, died Monday, December 1, 2025, after a brief illness.

          A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Mount Hope Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

          Mr. McGee was born in Florence, a son of the late Major Lewis McGee, Sr., and Claudia Dingle McGee. He graduated from Carlisle Military Academy and attended the University of South Carolina, before committing to the United States Navy.  After his tour in the Navy, he returned to South Carolina and operated several successful businesses, the most notable being McGee Electric in Florence.

          Mr. McGee was a member of Central United Methodist Church.  He loved nature and animals of all kinds. He dearly loved his family and his children.

          He is survived by his wife, Janet Floyd McGee, of the home; a daughter, Susan Elizabeth McGee of Florence; a son, Major Lewis McGee, III, (Jennifer) of Peoria, Arizona; two brothers-in-law, Doug Floyd (Cheryl) and Rhett Floyd, both of Florence; a sister-in-law, Susan Floyd Emerson of Pawleys Island; and several nieces and nephews.
