FLORENCE Margaret Maxwell Mueller died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in McLeod Hospice House after a brief illness. She was born in Florence, South Carolina, on January 28, 1916, a daughter of the late Pinckney Johnstone and Jessie Nettles Maxwell. She graduated from Florence High School and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. For many years she was bookkeeper for Florence Machine Works and Treasurer of Florence Iron and Steel, and retired from Campbell Company.
She was a life-long member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Louis Haskell Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Junior Welfare League, a member of the Plain Dirt Garden Club, a member and past president of the Edna St. Vincent Literary Club, the St. David Society and the Terpsichoran Dance Club.
In 1986, she married The Reverend Howard McCuddin Mueller of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, who passed away in 2003.
Mrs. Mueller was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth M. Johnston, Jessie M. Anderson and Ainslie M. Taylor; and three brothers, P. J. Maxwell, Jr., Earle Wilson Maxwell and William James Maxwell.
Survivors include a stepson, Howard Mueller, Jr., and a stepdaughter, Caroline Mueller, both of Pawleys Island, SC; a brother, E. Rivers Maxwell of Lamar, SC; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2013, in St. Johns Church with interment following in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
