Marie Jordan Obituary

Marie Frazier Jordan passed peacefully on July 13, 2025.

She was born Martha Marie Frazier on July 31, 1927 to parents, J. Clarence Frazier and Lucy Ellen Carter. She grew up in Liberty, NC with her parents, a sister, Delette and three brothers, Wendell, Joe and Bill. She graduated Liberty High School and attended Wake Forest University before returning to Liberty to work. She met her husband of 48 years, Linwood R. Jordan while attending church where he was the pastor.  He would later joke that he saw her from the pulpit and knew that she was it.

Married in 1948 the couple moved to Bluefield, WVA for several years and served College Avenue Baptist Church.  In 1952 they moved to Richmond, VA where they served Westover Baptist Church for 35 years. Marie was the consummate minister’s wife serving the church in many roles. She was a circle leader, leader of the Women’s Missionary Union, Sunday school teacher, principal of Vacation Bible School, directed and assisted in many church special events and loved singing in the choir. Apart from all she did for the church she was full-time mother, wife and a talented artist. She loved painting and crafts for herself and to share.

When her husband died in 1997 Marie moved to Florence, SC.  She immediately got involved. She attended First Presbyterian Church, was in circle, garden club, literary club and later led crafts at Shepherd’s Center of the Pee Dee hosted at Central Methodist. She made friends quickly and easily.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, her sister and brothers and her step-son Lin Jordan (Mary Ellen).  She is survived by her son Roger Jordan (Gaye) of Florence, SC, grandchildren Frazier Wilson (Jared) of Spartanburg, SC, Roddey Jordan (Kaylee) of Greenville, SC, Liza Leggio (Tory) of Atlanta, GA, Jay Lucas (Amy) and William Lucas (Carley) of Columbia, SC and eight great-grandchildren: Charles Wilson, Parker, Thomas and Raleigh Jordan, Lucy and Isabella Leggio and Elliott and Wyatt Lucas.  Marie always put others before herself and always wore a smile. She was loving and loyal and always looking for the best in everything and everyone.  She was a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother who always made you feel loved.  She will be missed.
