FLORENCE - Marilu Bivin Meredith, 86, died Monday, February 10, 2014, at her
residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014, in
Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral
home.
She was born in Elrod, Alabama, a daughter of the late Marion Luke and Helen
Elrod Bivin. She was reared by her father and step-mother, Martha Catherine
"Patsy" Bivin. She was a secretary for many years at Southside and South
Florence High Schools. She was also a long-time employee of The Carolinian.
Mrs. Meredith was a charter member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and
remained an active member of the Francis Asbury Sunday school class. She was
also one of the last surviving members of the Friendship Club.
She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Charles W. Meredith.
Her family, friends and faith were the focus of her life.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kathryn "Kay" Highsmith of Nahunta, GA, and
LuAnn (Don) James of Elgin, TX; six grandchildren, Charles (Sherry) Lebar and
Michele (Mark) Haynes, both of Nahunta, GA, Meredith (Eric) Middaugh of Manor,
TX, Rebecca James of Smithfield, TX, Whitney James and Courtney James, both of
Elgin, TX; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Lebar, Kassie, Cody and Matthew
Haynes, and Logan and Landry Middaugh; and one-great-great-grandchild, Emily
Lebar.
