Martin Sadler Obituary

FLORENCE Martin Lavern Sadler, 85, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at McLeod Hospice House after an illness.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2015, at Pisgah United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

Mr. Sadler was born December 11, 1929, in Frewsburg, New York, a son of the late Leo and Ethel Gage Sadler. He served his country in the United States Navy, and earned his Masters Degree from Penn State. He was a school teacher in McConnellsburg, PA, and Centre Hall, PA, before relocating to Gouverneur, New York, where he began his career as a guidance counselor. He retired from Gouverneur Junior High School after 36 years of service. While in Gouverneur, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and served as treasurer of a Cub Scout troop.

After retiring, he and his wife, Betty, moved to Florence. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Florence, where he formerly served on the Board of Trustees.

Mr. Sadler was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, biking, bowling, and travelling. He loved woodworking and making furniture for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Betty Cramer Sadler of the home; two sons, Chris (Mary) Sadler of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Roger (Connie) Sadler of Macomb, Illinois; two sisters, June (Tom) Jones and Joyce McNaughton, both of Russell, Pennsylvania; and two granddaughters, Lauren and Sarah Sadler, both of Macomb, IL.

He was predeceased by a brother, Loren Gage Sadler.
