Mary Alice Carmichael

FLORENCE Mary Alice Cusack Carmichael, 77, died Friday, July 18, 2014, after an illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014, in Hopewell Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home (waterspowellfh.com).

Mrs. Carmichael was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Darby and Lois Humphries Cusack. She graduated from Meredith College and earned her masters degree from the University of South Carolina. She was a teacher at West Florence High School.

Mrs. Carmichael was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Florence, and attended Hopewell Presbyterian Church with her husband. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club.

She was the widow of Glenn A. Carmichael, and was predeceased by a brother, William Darby Cusack, and a grandson, Jared Ashley.

Survivors include two sons, William D. (Shelby) Ashley of Lugoff, SC, and Robert L. Ashley of Merritt Island, FL; and six grandchildren, Allen Ashley, Quenten Ashley, Wyatt Ashley, Sofia Ashley, Kendall Jackson and Kyle Jackson.
