Mary Graves Lawing

HILDEBRAN, NC - Mrs. Mary Graves Lawing, 88, of Hildebran, went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, May 4, 2015 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Lawing was born May 1, 1927 in Spartanburg, S.C. a daughter of the late Edwin and Dewey Fleming Graves. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Cecils Business School. Mary taught school in Wilson and Raleigh, NC, Memphis, TN, and served as the financial advisor at the Florence, SC Family YMCA for ten years. She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Hildebran.


In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Frank Lawing, Sr, a daughter-in-law, Linda Lawing, brothers, Lawrence Graves, Edwin B. Graves, Jr., and sisters, Beatrice Jackson and Helen Adams.

Surviving are her sons, Loyd Frank Lawing, Jr. of Nashville, TN and Edwin Lawrence Lawing of Hildebran. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Edwin L. Lawing, Jr., Brandy Lewis, Jeannene Thrasher, Jefferson Lawing, Laura Turner, Nechole Lawing, Jason Lawing and Jena Garrett, twelve great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Hildebran First Baptist Church, with Rev. Ron Arndt officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Hildebran First Baptist Church.

Entombment will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Florence, SC.
