Mary Leslie Obituary

FLORENCE - Mary Elizabeth Betty Carter Leslie, 85, died Saturday, May 16, 2015, in a Florence Hospice facility. She was the widow of Lawrence Billy Lorraine Leslie, who died in 1981.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Florence National Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the residence, 2955 Boxwood Ave., Florence.

Mrs. Leslie was born in Columbia, a daughter of the late William Preston Carter and Artie Cornelia Bolten Carter Gray. She attended McClenaghan High School, and was a member of Eastside Christian Church. Together, she and her husband were the owners and operators of the Elmores Grocery and the American Superette in Florence. She loved her family, and also enjoyed cooking and needlework.

Surviving are a daughter, Beth L. Stevens of Florence; a son, William P. (Deborah) Leslie of Darlington; a sister, Dorothy Cornelia Bazzell of Florence; four grandchildren, Jodie (Rob) Collinson, Amanda (Jay) McLaurin, Matthew (Tiffany) Leslie, and Preston Leslie; 8 great grandchildren, R.J. Joyner, Andrew Joyner, Cameron Joyner, Will Collinson, Sam Collinson, Miranda Leslie, Hunter Leslie, and Reese McLaurin; and special nieces, Debbie Picinich and Sherry Carter.

Mrs. Leslie was also predeceased by a son, Michael L. Leslie; a sister, Mildred Bragg; and four brothers, Charles G. Carter, J.D. Carter, Reuben Carter, and William Buddy Morris Carter.

The family of Mrs. Leslie would like to express special thanks to the staff of McLeod Hospice House for the gentle loving care given to their precious mother in her final weeks.
