Mary Young Ritch

          DARLINGTON – Mary Lorraine Young Ritch, 75, died Wednesday, December 4, 2024, after an illness.

          Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Florence National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2024, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

          She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Edward Raymond Young, Sr., and Celeste Thanos Young Schultz.  A daughter of a Navy man, she was raised in Baltimore and Charleston, SC.  She retired from Howard Johnson Motel in Florence as the head housekeeper.  Following her retirement, she worked with S&W Manufacturing Company.

          Mary was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church in Darlington, SC.  She was an avid sports fan, especially Clemson Tigers and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon.

          In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Emmanuel “Paul” Ritch, Sr.; a brother, Edward Raymond Young, Jr.; and a daughter, Brenda Cruz.

          Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Purvis (Gary) of Darlington; two sons, Jimmy “Wayne” Hilton, Jr. of Monroe, NC, and Frankie Hilton of Florence; an “adopted son” David McClain (Debbie) of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Ann Neiman (Bill) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Linda L. Outcault (Vanessa) of Hanahan, SC; 8 grandchildren and nine-great-grandchildren.

          Memorials may be made to the OMMT (for Nicaraguan Missions), c/o Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 2364 Cashua Ferry Road, Darlington, SC  29532.
