CHARLESTON Mary Wesley Simmonds, 35, died Thursday, September 12, 2013. Born in Florence, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Myrna Hewett Simmonds and the late Stuart McCullen Simmonds, Sr.
Mary Wesley graduated from West Florence High School and Trident Technical College, and was a veterinary technician with the West Ashley Veterinary Clinic. She was also employed with St. Johns Marina on Johns Island.
Mary Wesley was passionate about animals and rescued all types of animals, most recently a horse. Her Boykin spaniel, Mabel, never left her side and passed away along with her.
She loved the outdoors, the ocean, and deep-sea fishing.
Mary Wesley lit up the room wherever she went; her infectious smile and engaging personality will long be remembered. She never met a stranger.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of Florence, include two brothers, Stuart M. (Allison) Simmonds, Jr., and their children, Layton and Hampton, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Robert Clayton (Jill) Simmonds, and their children, Caroline Grace, Madeline, and William, of Alexandria, VA; and numerous other relatives and friends across the country.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2013, in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home (waterspowellfh.com). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
