Mary Ann Snow, 97, died peacefully at her home on July 17, 2024.
Mrs. Snow was born in Leaksville, North Carolina on September 4, 1926. A daughter of the late Charles Henry Sr. and Myrtle Gaffney Boyd, Mary Ann had three other siblings whom she loved dearly.
She graduated from Limestone College in 1947 and came to Florence to work for Aiken and Company in the accounting department. In Florence, she met the love of her life, Bill Snow, and they were married in 1952. After she became a mother, she worked for 7 years as a kindergarten teacher at Mrs. Wright’s Kindergarten. She later worked at Bankers Mortgage/Fleet Funding until her retirement in 1991.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 70 years. During this time, she worked with the church-sponsored brownie troop, the church youth group, an adult Sunday school class and UMC circle as a leader and teacher. She served on many church boards and was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class and the Joy Anderson circle.
Mary Ann had a presence that was almost regal and carried herself with the utmost dignity and respect. Her granddaughters hoped that she, like Julie Andrews in the movie Princess Diaries, would one day tell them that she was in fact Queen of a faraway land.
Mary Ann loved to garden and took pride in having a beautiful yard, so much so that she won awards year after year. If she couldn’t be found inside her home, she was more than likely working in her yard or her greenhouse.
Mary Ann believed deeply in the power of her Savior and devoted her life to loving and serving others. She was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ until her last breath and is surely rejoicing in Heaven with Him now.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Clayton Snow (2005), her sister Katherine Boyd Anthony, two brothers, Charles Henry Boyd Jr. and John Robert Boyd, and two great-grandchildren Iris English and Wren English.
Surviving are her two daughters, Lynda English (Ernie) and Evelyn Lott (Mark), both of Florence, four grandchildren, Matthew English (Meredith), Katie English Koon (Tripp), Kellen Lott and Taylor Lott, and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Koon, Joshua Koon, and Silas English.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 21, 2024, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, followed by services starting at 3:00 p.m., directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Central United Methodist Church, 265 W Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29501.
