Melva Plummer Gibbs

FLORENCE Melva Plummer Gibbs, 92, died Saturday, August 10, 2013, in a local health care center after an illness.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013, in Florence Baptist Temple. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home (www.waterspowellfh.com). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

She was born in Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Charlotte Lee Odom Plummer. She was retired from Tomlinsons Wholesale in Florence.

Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Florence Baptist Temple and the Bill Valentine Sunday School Class.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Herbert Gibbs, Jr.; a daughter, Susan Gibbs Martin; and a son, Christopher Lee Gibbs.

Survivors include her daughter, Billie G. (Paul) Narron of Florence; her son-in-law, Harry F. Martin of Florence; five grandchildren, Pamela Martin Taylor, Charlotte Jones (Chas) McClellan, and Mandi Walker (Thomas) Campbell, all of Florence, Duane (Dana) Martin of Spartanburg, SC, and Josh (Michelle) Walker of Ft. Mill, SC; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
