Michelle McCray

       With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Michelle McCray, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at the age of 56.

       Ms. McCray was born on April 17, 1969 in Florence County, a daughter of the late Jessie Mae Jones McCray and Marshall McCray, Sr. She is a graduate of Hannah-Pamplico High School, Class of 1988.

       According to Scripture, Christian character includes the pursuit of truth, godliness, love, joy, gentleness, kindness, patience, meekness, humility, compassion, thankfulness, forgiveness, and unity. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness. She was, quite simply, all thanks and wonder.

       An avid fisher, she was practically born with a fishing rod in her hand, thanks to early lessons from grandma Blanche. She along with her siblings spent their long summer days fishing with grandma throughout throughout Berkley County, SC and Pinopolis, SC was the premiere destination.

       Michelle is now resting in the arms of the angels, reunited with her beloved parents and sister. May the winds of heaven blow softly until we walk together again.

       Ms. McCray is survived by her siblings, Roy Lee McCray and his wife Vangie Baker McCray of Florence; Marshall McCray, Jr. of Pamplico; Sheila Ann McCray Harley and her husband Willie Levern Harley of Florence; and Mona Lisa McCray Andrews and her husband Billy Cuttino Andrews, III of Pamplico; nephews, Brett Austin McCray, Sr. and his wife Esmeralda Lizbeth Hernandez McCray of Florence; Bobby Morgan Hall, Jr. and Cameron Nathan Hall of Florence, SC; great nephews and great niece, Master Brett Austin McCray Jr., Master Bentley Ashton McCray and Brielle Elizabeth McCray of Florence; whom she adored, maternal aunt; Mary Lee Jones Nettles of Quinby; paternal uncle, Frank Smalls of Florence; God sisters Jamesetta Reid and Tanja Reid of Moncks Corner, SC; Life-long family friends and neighbors: Mr. Alphonso Robinson, Sr. and his wife Mrs., Patricia Barr Robinson and family of Pamplico and Mrs. Lillian McCall Robinson and family of Pamplico.

       Maternal grandparents; Orie Bartell Jones and Johnny Jones, Sr. paternal grandparents; Blanche McCray and Zollie McLeod McNeil, and sister, Cynthia Ann McCray predeceased her.

       Pallbearers will be James Lee Fleming, Alphonso Robinson, Sr., Barry Bartell, Frank Robinson, Liston Kelly, Willis Timmons, Gernard Smalls and Harry Davis.

       The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel, 400 South Dargan Street, Florence, SC followed by interment in Mill Branch African Methodist Church Cemetery, 1917 North Old River Road, Pamplico, SC. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon prior to the hour of service.
