MARION – Miles Ray Joye, 69, died Friday, January 5, 2024, after a 3-year courageous battle with cancer.
Ray was born in Georgetown County, South Carolina, a son of the late Miles Lester and Loretta Brown Joye. He graduated from Marion High School and served an enlistment in the U.S. Navy. He was a Viet Nam veteran, having served on the USS America in the Tonkin Gulf. He was retired from West Rock Paper Mill. Mr. Joye was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
He was a dog and horse enthusiast and was a member and past president of the North Carolina Field Trial Association.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Martin Joye, of Marion; two daughters, Laura Joye Edwards (Lance) of Lake View, SC, and Lisa Joye Johnson, of Marion, SC; three brothers, Mitchell Joye of Marion, Linwood Joye (Terry) of Montgomery, AL, and Russell Joye (Maria) of Taylors, SC; and six grandchildren, Evan Graham, Jenna Graham, Reed Trussell, Miles Trussell, Walker Trussell, and Katie Johnson.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Florence National Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence. The family will receive visitors following the service at First Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall), 300 S. Irby St., Florence, SC.
