FLORENCE Phyllis Parsons Peggy Thomas, 91, died Friday, January 31, 2014, in a Sumter health care center after an illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Florence, officiated by Rev. Jerry Aiken and Rev. Charles Pittman. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
She was born in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, a daughter of the late James and Sara Mauk Parsons. She was raised in Staten Island, NY, Columbus, GA, and spent a brief time in Spring Lake, NC, where she met her late husband, Wilton Leo Thomas, Sr. They resided in Florence, where she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Companion Sunday School Class and W.M.U. She was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Womens Club.
She loved her family and is survived by a son, Leo Thomas, Jr., of Sumter; a granddaughter, Wendy T. (Domingo) Murguia of Charleston; a grandson, James Lee Thomas of Florence; and four great-grandchildren.
