Randy James Swain

FLORENCE Randy James Swain, 62, died Monday, June 6, 2016, after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2016, in the Chapel at Waters-Powell Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, in New London Cemetery, New London, North Carolina.

Randy was born in Corning, New York, a son of the late Richard and Doris Dates Swain. He graduated from Stanly High School in New London, North Carolina, and was an engineer in the manufacturing industry. A resident of Florence for the past ten years, Randy was an avid motorcyclist and fisherman. He loved classic rock and was a passionate sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Elisa Overmyer Swain, of the home; three step-children, Christina Taylor of Georgetown, Brandon Taylor and Bradley Taylor, both of Florence; a sister, Cathy (Ted) Nash of New London, NC; two brothers, Dr. Richard (Sharon) Swain of Columbia, SC, and Scott Swain of New London, NC; a granddaughter, Eva Shumate of Florence; his mother-in-law, Hilda Overmyer of Myrtle Beach, SC; three sisters-in-law, Frances (Mike) Talbot of Portage, Ind., Rachelle Nixon of Dalzell, SC, and Delia (Francis) Cooper of Middleburg, FL; 12 nieces and nephews, and 22 great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House, c/o McLeod Foundation, P. O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502 (mcleodfoundation.org), or to the hospice organization of ones choice.
