Dr. Richard Hampton Young passed away at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on November 10, 2024.
He was born and raised in Florence, SC, and was the son of Johnnie H. Young and the late Judith Yarborough Young. He was a periodontist and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine at MUSC in Charleston, SC, and completed his periodontal residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He practiced in North Myrtle Beach for 35 years and loved his profession, staff, patients, and colleagues.
Rick is also survived by his wife of 41 years and best friend, Melody C. Young and his daughter whom he adored, Dr. McKenzie C. Young. He is survived by his brother, Micah, sister-in-law Christy and nephew Thomas. Rick is survived by his sister-in-law Tara Wiggins and nephew Matthew Gardner. He is also survived by his nieces Taylor, Rachel and Carla and many cousins.
Rick is now with his brother Kevin “KY” with whom he was very close. He is at peace and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Greenwood Baptist Church in Florence, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
