Rita Harrell Meggs

LITTLE RIVER Our sweet and beautiful angel, Rita Harrell Meggs, passed away at home on October 13, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born to Leonilda Pane Harrell and Robert Frank Harrell, Sr., on November 24, 1957, in Florence, SC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law, Vivian Meggs. She is survived by the two loves of her life, her husband of 29 years, Martin Marty Joe Meggs of Little River, and her son, Daniel Joel Meggs of Columbia. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Bobby F. Harrell, Jr., of Florence; sisters, Patsy H. Chapman of Pawleys Island, Linda H. (Ronny) Baroody, Robin Harrell and Pam Harrell, all of Florence; father-in-law, Thomas Meggs of Florence; two brothers-in-law, Mike (Cecilia) Meggs of Florence and Jerry Meggs of Denmark, SC; her beloved Lab, Gunner, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rita was a graduate of Southside High School in Florence and was employed by South Carolina National Bank for a number of years. She was a homemaker and loved caring for her family, her home and her beautiful yard. She was an avid gardener and took pride in the beauty she created.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Florence with entombment following at the Mausoleum at Florence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the offices of Dr. Gangi and Dr. Goldberg, and a special thanks to The Amedisys Hospice of SC in Pawleys Island for all the special care they provided to Rita and her family.
