EFFINGHAM – Robert Bruce Davenport, 81, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, after an illness.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Greenwood Baptist Church. Friends and family are invited for light refreshments following the service.
He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, one of six children born to William Holland and Dorothy Emily Lassig Davenport. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps where he was a military police officer. Bob saw combat during the Vietnam War and was awarded two Purple Hearts for wounds received in action.
Bob spent most of his career in sales. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his family. He also loved the outdoors and especially loved his dog, Harley.
He is survived by his wife, LuAnn Bassett Davenport, of Effingham; two sons, Robert B. Davenport, Jr. (Lisa) of St. Augustine, FL, and Christopher Davenport (Kim) of Warwick, RI; one granddaughter, Kayla Davenport, also of Warwick, RI; a sister, Donna D. DeValerio (Glen) of Rhode Island; four brothers, William Davenport (Teresa) and Richard Davenport (Kathy), both of Florence, SC, Mark Davenport (Carolyn) and Glenn Davenport (Lori), both of Warwick, RI; and several nieces and nephews.
