Robert Eugene Quarles, Jr.

FLORENCE Robert Eugene Quarles, Jr., 91, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at his home after an illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, in the Church at Parkland. Entombment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home, and other times at 470 Somerset Place, Florence, SC.

Mr. Quarles was born in Augusta, Georgia, a son of the late Robert Eugene Quarles, Sr., and Alice Battle Tuggle Quarles. He graduated from Florence High School, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on a Survey Ship.

Mr. Quarles was the founder of the Church at Parkland and served as its pastor until his death. He also worked at Quarles Photography Studio in Florence, and was a real estate broker.

Survivors include his wife, Helen A. Quarles, of the home; three daughters, Cassandra L. Quarles (Tony) Esposito of Port Charlotte, FL, Cynthia J. Quarles and Patricia D. Quarles, both of Florence; two grandchildren, Ronald J. Hallman, Jr., and Amber H. Fimmano, both of Port Charlotte, FL; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
