FLORENCE - Samuel Kirkland (Kirk) Ham, 67, of Florence, SC passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014.
Dr. Ham was born in Florence, SC, on October 16, 1946. He graduated from McClenaghan High School, received his undergraduate degree from Wofford College and Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry. He joined his late father, Samuel, in practice in 1972 in Florence.
Kirk’s life revolved around serving the Florence community both through his devoted work as an Optometrist and through his philanthropic work. He was a member of Florence Rotary Club, American Optometric Association, Pee Dee Optometric Association (former president), Florence Big Brother Association (former president), Central United Methodist Church and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He loved his family dearly and could frequently be found spending time at Lake Marion, enjoying golf and Clemson sports.
Kirk is predeceased by his parents, Clara and Samuel (Sam) Ham, and survived by his beloved wife Kathy Keltner Ham of Florence; two children: Kellie McLain (David) of Mount Pleasant and Travis Ham (Laura) of Florence; two grandchildren: Sophie and Sam McLain; and mother-in-law, Nona Keltner of Florence.
A visitation will be held at Waters-Powell Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014. The funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, at Central United Methodist Church, with entombment immediately following at Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.
