Sarah Dent Obituary

FLORENCE, SC Sarah Corley Dent, 87, widow of Coke Smith, Dent, Jr., died Thursday, December 4, 2014, after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2014, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Adoniron Judson and Amanda Harmon Corley. She graduated from Florence High School and was a homemaker and avid gardener. She loved making scarves and hats for people in third world countries.

Mrs. Dent was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and volunteered in many areas of church service.

Mrs. Dent was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was initiated into Goldenrod Chapter #142 in 1977. She served as Worthy Matron for many years. She was past Matron of Leonora Chapter #30; District Deputy Grand Matron 1998-99 for District 19; District Deputy 2006-07 for District 19; and designated as Grand Representative of the United Grand Chapter of Australia in the Grand Chapter of South Carolina in 1997. She had a dual membership with the Pamplico Chapter #170.

She was Mother Advisor Goldenrod Assembly #29 in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls from 1987 1994.

Survivors include a son, Coke Smith (Fay) Dent, III, of Lamar, SC; a daughter, Rebecca Becky D. (Larry) Hill of Wallace, NC; a sister, Barbara Corley Bobbie Hyman of Florence; three grandchildren, Laura Dent (Gary) Cornell, Coke Oliner (Amy) Dent, and Aaron Andrew (Heather) Hill; two step-grandchildren, Renee Lawhon Jernigan and Harold Evan (Joy) Lawhon; three great-grandchildren, Colton Andrew Hill, Lucy Ella Dent, and Hadley Coke Dent; a step-great-grandchild, Riley David Jernigan; a godson, Kent (Lisa) Rivenbark and their son, Garrett Rivenbark, of Wilmington, NC.

She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1300 Second Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505; or Leonora Chapter of OES, c/o Betty Lou Burrows, 2216 Inverness Dr., Florence, SC 29505.
