Shirley Matthews Powers

FLORENCE Shirley Matthews Powers, 68, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in the Chapel at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the mausoleum.

She was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late James Cleveland and Mary Elizabeth Howard Matthews. She was the widow of L. Lloyd Powers. She and her husband were owners and operators of the Ingram Street Grocery in Florence for a number of years. She was currently a resident of the Carriage House.

Mrs. Powers is survived by two sons, Vernon (Joanna) Powers and Tony Powers; two brothers, James W. (Ann) Matthews and Charles (Jil) Matthews, all of Florence; two granddaughters, Megan Powers and Emily Powers, both of Pamplico; two step-grandsons, Dean Weldon and Benjamin Weldon, both of Florence; a sister-in-law, Carol Matthews of Surfside Beach, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, J. C. Matthews.
