FLORENCE – Shirley Thomas Strickland, 81, died Monday, March 17, 2014, in a local hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014, at First Baptist Church with entombment following in Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
She was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Emory Walker and Mildred Rowell Thomas. She was the widow of Arthur M. Strickland, III.
Mrs. Strickland was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the B.Q. Chapter of P.E.O. in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
She was an avid bridge player, a gourmet cook, and also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Strickland of Florence; two sons, Arthur M. (Beverly Ann) Strickland, IV, of Milwaukee, WI, and Daniel W. (Kristy) Strickland of Guyton, GA; five grandchildren, Arthur M. Strickland, V, Tanya Marie (Bill) Gonzalez, Ashley Ray Strickland, Michael Brandon Strickland, and Jacob Walker Strickland; and two great-grandchildren, Gia Gonzalez and Phoenix Gonzalez.
