Susan Elayne Turner Senseney of Florence, SC, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, after a long illness. She was born in Charlotte, NC, to Virginia Turpie Turner and Roy Edward Turner, Sr. She graduated from McClenaghan High School and attended Columbia College. Susan left college to marry Harvey G. Senseney, III, her husband of sixty-five years. The young bride had to quickly adapt to being the wife of an Air Force pilot when Harvey was assigned to Japan shortly after their marriage. They celebrated their first wedding anniversary in Tokyo.
Susan learned to appreciate the travel benefits that came with Harvey’s career as a pilot, both in the Air Force and at Pan American World Airways. She and her children enjoyed family trips to several countries in Europe, the Far East, and South America. After living in eight cities, the family returned to Florence in 1971. There, they rejoined their home church, Central United Methodist, where Susan served on the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school to young children. She was a member of the Junior League and enjoyed her work with autistic and special needs children.
In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her daughter, Ashley Senseney Higson (Gregg) of Charlotte, NC, and their daughters, Sullivan Katherine and Elizabeth Sumner Higson. She is also survived by grandsons Charles Matthew Senseney, Samuel Evans Senseney, Wesley Jack Turner Senseney, and Jonathan Flynn Senseney (Emily), along with their daughters, Rivers Elaine and Ellie Jobe. Additionally, Susan is survived by her brother, Roy Edward Turner, Jr. (Ann) of Greenville, SC and her brother-in-law David Barton Senseney of Burnsville, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews. Susan’s daughter-in-law, Anna Jane Dudley Senseney, MD, has faithfully supported “Sus” during her two-year illness. Her loving care will always be a treasured memory in the family's hearts.
Susan was also preceded in death by her beloved twin sons, Jonathan Ashley and Christopher Marshall Senseney, MD, who was married to Anna Jane.
A memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Friday, March 7, 2025, at noon. The family will greet friends following the service.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 265 West Cheves Street, Florence, South Carolina 29501.
