Sylvia Sweet Peed

          FLORENCE – Sylvia Sweet Peed, 91, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the Heritage Home of Florence. 
          Mrs. Peed was born in Wilmington NC, to the late James Clement Sweet and Bessie Easterling Sweet. Raised in Florence, she graduated from McClenaghan High School and Coker College of Hartsville. 
          Mrs. Peed was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Samuel Henry Peed and her sister, Maggie Coggburn of Dayton, Ohio.
          She was a faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was the Director of Calvary Kindergarten for 22 years and loved her students as her own. Even in the many years since her retirement, she would always say “I think I had them at Calvary.” 
          Surviving are her children, David Alan Peed (Becky) of Spring Hill, TN; Audrey Peed McNeill (Buddy) of Thomasville, NC; Susan Peed Martin of Florence, and James Robert “Robby” Peed (Kim), also of Florence. 
          Her greatest loves were her twelve grandchildren: Sam Peed, Dora Peed (Lassana) Akoi of Norfolk, VA, Joshua Peed (Lauren) of Des Moines, IA, Rachel Peed (Rudy) Nasser of Memphis, TN, Abigail Peed of Cork, Ireland, Thomas (Kara) McNeill of Thomasville, NC, Zach (Ashley) McNeill of Griffin, GA, Jacob (Madison) McNeill of Thomasville, NC, Emma Martin, Lake Martin, Kyle Martin, and Livi Peed, all of Florence; and eight great-grandchildren:  Addie, Isaac, and Caroline McNeill; Jackson and Oliver McNeill; Avery and Ivy Nasser, and Asher Akoi.  
           A very special thank you to the staff of the Heritage Home for their kindness, loving care and friendship given to Mrs. Peed. They truly cared for her as if she were a member of their own family. 
          Funeral services will be Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
