TIMMONSVILLE – Thomas Dewey McKenzie, 78, died Thursday morning, April 24, 2025, after an illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Florence Memorial Gardens, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Mr. McKenzie was born in Cades, South Carolina, a son of the late Garris William and Sallie Burnette Spring McKenzie. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War. He earned several medals, including the Purple Heart.
Mr. McKenzie was employed with Daniel Construction until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Garris Barnette McKenzie (and wife, Gail Reddick McKenzie) and Bobby Wayne McKenzie (and wife, Genevieve); and a niece, Devin Shaffer.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Vause McKenzie, of Timmonsville; his son, Mark Thomas McKenzie (Laura McKay Evans), also of Timmonsville; and a sister, Phyllis Ann Shaffer (Frank) of Summerton, SC.
The family would like to express special thanks to Crescent Hospice for their compassionate care of Mr. McKenzie during his illness.
