Travis King, Jr. Obituary

FLORENCE - Travis P. Chip King, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. He was born in Florence in 1947, the son of the late Travis P. King, Sr. and Ruth Smith King.

Chip was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round of the 1967 Major League Baseball draft. After a six year professional baseball career, Chip went to work with the railroad and retired from CSX after 35 years of service.

Chip was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He was loved by many and will forever be missed by those who knew him.

Chip is survived by his daughter, Stacy Gunter, and her husband JJ of Tampa, FL, and their children, Jake and Libby; his son Travis P. Tray King, III, and his wife Sara Lee of Atlanta, GA, and their children, Callee and Lizzy; his uncle, Thad Smith and his wife Ann of Fernandina Beach, FL; and long-time friend Ethel Sims of Florence.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. Luke Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the church.
