Veronica Anne Blackwell

FLORENCE Veronica Anne Dolan Blackwell, 74, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2015 after a long illness.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Edward C. and Amelia Deninger Dolan. She graduated from Ft. Hamilton High School, and was an administrative assistant and co-owner of Blackwell Security Company in Florence before her retirement.

Veronica was a loving wife, mother and friend, and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She loved volunteering her time at the St. Marys Catholic Church Soup Kitchen in Hartsville, and was a member of the American Legion Womens Auxiliary Post 1.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, John Caston J.C. Blackwell of Florence; three daughters, Karen (James) Beckett of Orlando, FL, Judy (Stephen) Gootman of Florence, and Wanda (Clyde) Minick of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Teresa Lian of Philadelphia, PA, and Catherine Schnock of San Diego, CA; a brother, Charlie Dolan of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Kayla Danielle Blackwell, Jeffrey Curtis Beckett, Robert Payden Taylor, and Sara Nichole Beckett; a great-grandson, Hayden Brooks Lane; a nephew, Tony Thomas (Vickie) Cates, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a beautiful person and will be greatly missed.

A mass to celebrate her life will be said at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Florence National Cemetery directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. No visitation services will be held.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Charleston Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
