Wallace B. Permenter

FLORENCE Wallace B. Permenter died April 7, 2016, at McLeod Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 18, 1934, to Leon Jennings and Thelma ONeal Permenter in Mullins, SC.

He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1957 with a degree in business administration and accounting. He practiced accounting in Florence from 1957 until 1988, and was Resident Managing Partner of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland in Florence until his retirement. He was Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer for Cale Yarborough Enterprises from 1988 until 2010. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, SC and NC State Associations of CPAs, past president of Florence Optimist Club, Florence Lions Club, Pee Dee Association of CPAs, and served on the Florence District One School Board from 1973 1981.

Mr. Permenter was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Bertie Stokes Permenter, of the home; four daughters, Cathy Permenter Buffkin (Greg) of Florence, Robin Denise Permenter of Charleston, Amy Permenter Keefe (Robert) of Pamplico, and Elizabeth Rawlings Russell of Florence; three sons, Stephen Brooks Permenter (Terri) of Chesnee, SC, Robert Dean Russell, Jr. (Karen) and Bradley Stokes Russell, MD, both of Florence; grandchildren, Whitney Buffkin Turner (Brad), Dylan Jennings Nichols, Robert Chase Keefe, Jacob Chapman Keefe, Christopher Gage Russell, Kendall Brooke Russell, Michelle Elizabeth Russell, Stokes Marie Russell, Robert Dean Russell, III, and David Graham Russell; and great-grandchildren, William Elijah Turner and Olivia Harper Buffkin.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ann Permenter Rabon; three brothers, Larry Permenter, Lionel Permenter, and Harold Permenter; and a grandson, Ryan Drake Buffkin.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Central United Methodist Church with burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
