Will F. Huntley, Jr.

          DARLINGTON – Will F. Huntley, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.  He was born in the Pittsburgh, PA, area and was a son of the late Wilbert F. Huntley and Carrie Wade Huntley.

          He was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA, and following his graduation served as an officer in the US Army Reserves in the field artillery.  He later earned a master’s degree in US and European history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Ph.D. in US and European history from the University of South Carolina. During his  time at UNCG and USC, he served as a graduate assistant.  He was a full-time adjunct assistant professor at The Citadel from 1982 to 1986.  He later was an instructor at the Hammond School and the South Carolina Governors School for Science and Mathematics.  He was selected for post-doctoral fellowship/grants in government, economics, and history at the College of William and Mary, University of Virginia, University of South Carolina, and Clemson University.  He most recently taught history at Wilson High School in Florence for many years prior to his retirement.

          He is survived by his daughters, Anna C. Huntley of Washington, DC, and Karen C. Huntley of Camden, SC, and their mother, Sarah; his brother, Lawson M. Huntley (Debbie) of Pageland, SC; and his special friend, Lee Eaddy of Florence.

          A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025, in the Chapel of Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence.  He will be interred in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC, at a later date.
