FLORENCE William Weston Weldon, Sr., 80, died Monday, October 28, 2013, in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Sellers, SC, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Mr. Weldon was born in Cheraw, SC, a son of the late John and Thelma Hayes Weldon. He graduated from Bennettsville High School and from Clemson College in 1955. He later received his Masters Degree from Clemson University in Agriculture Education. He also served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
He taught Agriculture Education at the Florence Career Center for 30 years.
Mr. Weldon was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a former lay speaker, church Board member, and Sunday School teacher. He also served on numerous clubs and organizations through the years, including serving as past president of Florence Educators Credit Union, chaplain of Florence Retired Teachers Association, member of Florence County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Effingham Ruritan Club, and Woodmen of the World.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Pendarvis Weldon; and a brother, Johnnie (Martha) Weldon of North Augusta.
Survivors include his daughter, Frances Ann Weldon of the home; two sons, William Weston Bill (Donna) Weldon, Jr. and their children, John and Rachel Weldon, all of Florence, and James Harmon Jim (Deonda) Weldon of Clemson, SC; a brother, Richard (Deannie) Weldon of Chapin, SC; and his favorite feline, Blackie.
