Bruce Eden Obituary

FLORENCE — Bruce Harold Eden, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at The Manor in Florence, SC after an extended illness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Bruce was born in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the second son of the late Harold Francis Eden and the late Anne Leah (Leeming) Eden on December 23, 1933. He attended school in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University. Bruce worked for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, later to become Novartis, for the entirety of his career. His work included everything from organ transplant medications to cancer research. He traveled throughout the southeast working with teaching hospitals.

An avid baseball player in his youth, Bruce spent years coaching his sons’ teams and watching his grandsons play the sport he loved. He also enjoyed playing tennis. Once he could no longer participate in sports himself, Bruce could be found watching them at home. Growing up in Michigan, he had a fondness for hockey and loved cheering on his Carolina Hurricanes.

Bruce loved his family fiercely in his quiet manner. He served as a strong role model as a husband and father. His blue eyes often held a mischievous twinkle, always ready with his quick wit.

Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Wanda Kennon Eden, on March 3, 2013. Survivors include a son, Jeff Eden (Jan), of Raleigh, NC, a daughter, Denise Murray, of Wake Forest, NC, a daughter, Michelle Reagan (Walt) of Youngsville, NC, a step-son, Richard Minter of Durham, NC; a daughter, Leslie Olsen (Scott) of Florence, a brother, Gordon Eden (Carol) of Picayune, Mississippi, six grandchildren, Jason Eden (Christine) of Chapel Hill, NC; Parker Eden of Denver, CO; Joshua Reagan and Dustin Reagan of Youngsville, NC; and Nicholas Olsen and Lauren Olsen of Florence, SC, and one great-grandchild, Brooks Eden (Chapel Hill, NC).

Bruce was a great lover of animals, especially his Westie, Lexus. The family requests that memorials be made to The Florence Animal Humane Society, PO Box 4808, Florence, SC 29502 in his honor.
